The difference between management and...
Management is about making an existing business work efficiently, entrepeneurship is about finding demand and a path to market.

Everyone is in a tizzy today about a new report that states 95% of users have never tried of web-based office suites. ReadWriteWeb is trying to justify it.  TechCrunch questioned the validity of the data. I think the study is probably representative of the truth: most people still won’t use web software, primarily because web software sucks.  It’s not fast enough, not smooth enough,...

Seriously, who wants to use IE on a phone?
The next version of Windows Mobile will include the desktop version of IE.  Seriously, IE is a slow dog.  Their rendering engine sucks hard.  The kinds of apps that people want to deliver on phones need speed, tight engines.  Who wants to use IE?

The Dilbert Blog: Next on Mount Rushmore →
It’s nice to see Scott Adam’s blogging thought provoking stuff again.  Today he writes about why Bush will be one of the greatest presidents in history.   This is not Scott’s view, but it is interesting to think about how the criteria used by historians to judge people differs from those used by one’s contemporaries.

A week with Tumblr
I’ve been using Tumblr for about a week now.  I have  to say so far it has been great.  Sometimes the service is a little slow but I know how that goes when you have a small startup. I’m one of those people who have tried blogging for many years but it never really took for me.  It just takes me too much time to write long essays and to maintain the site myself. But in the last week...

Why I still like Fred
Fred Wilson turned me down.  He was the first venture firm we met with in early 2006 and he turned me down.  Right away.  It was a little hard to take honestly. I’ve pitched a lot of investors in the past for other companies.  I know how to take “no” for an answer.  Or so I thought.  But the truth is, not many investors say no…they just hem and haw until you go away.  But...

This is possible today.  There is a guy in the Bay Area who will mod your Prius so you can recharge it using a standard 110 outlet.  Only problem is, this doesn’t really solve our energy problem - it just centralizes it in the coal burning power plants…

Blog for a Year - The Final Days →
BfaY comes to a close Jan 1, 2008.  It was started as an experiment to discover if people passionate about starting a career in the arts (writing in this case), could come together and help on their own make a dream come true. Obviously some aspects haven’t worked out like we hoped, but some other parts have really exceeded my expectations. For example, I am blown away by the quality of the blogs...

LinkBack  →
I’ve been writing a lot of specs lately using Apple’s Pages and I really missing LinkBack support.  Why can’t I double click on my OmniGraffle documents and edit them?   So here I am putting this out into the universe hoping the folks on the floor above me in Apple will listen…

Something New
Today I’m trying a new system for hosting Okito.net called a tumble blog from Tumblr.   For those of you who don’t know, tumble blogging is a special type of blogging service designed for people on the go.  Rather than focusing on long-form essays, like typical blogging services, tumble blogs make it easy to post a quick note or thought. Quick posts are usually all I have time for,...
